Capt. Mike was born in Jupiter and grew up fishing the Loxahatchee River, Intracoastal Waterway and Jupiter Inlet, primarily for snook, trout, snapper and sharks. When he became assistant editor of Florida Fishing Weekly he moved to Stuart and began fishing the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers. This area affords the opportunity to target a lot more species and take advantage of a snook bite that only seems to get better each year. Offshore action for species like dolphin, wahoo, sailfish and blackfin tuna is close enough to start there in the morning and finish the day with a hefty snook, jack or tarpon inshore. Live-chumming and live bait is the preferred method for targeting these fish, although the artificial lure bite can be very good during the right seasons.
